The Farm and Local Area
Situated in the North York Moors National Park, Swainstye Farm is a working hill farm using traditional non-intensive farming methods to produce high quality cattle and sheep. Our livestock enjoy grazing out in the fields during the summer months and are winter housed during the colder months of the year. Many of our cows are individually named and we would be pleased to introduce you to Bluebell, Holly, Daisy and friends, and also not forgetting JW and Percy the bulls!
We enjoy the natural environment we live in and seek to look after it wherever possible. The traditional dry stone walls which act as field boundaries are maintained to a high standard, and wildlife and flora are encouraged through reed meadows and wild areas. Deer, foxes, hares, swallows, lapwings and wild geese are all regular visitors to the farm.
Osmotherley is a picturesque village of pretty stone cottages nestled against the heather clad moors, wooded hillsides and grassy meadows of the North York Moors National Park. The village is popular with walkers, cyclists and riders with an extensive network of footpaths and bridleways which provide a wealth of opportunity to explore this beautiful countryside which is stunning at any time of year. The Lyke Wake Walk starts from the village and the Coast to Coast Walk, the Cleveland Way and the Sustrans White Rose cycle route all pass through the village.
The village offers an excellent range of facilities with three pubs all serving food, a traditional fish and chip shop, two cafes, a village shop selling groceries and a walking shop. www.osmotherleywalkingshop.co.uk
